All-Ireland gold for West Muskerry's Rachel O'Shea
RACHAEL O'Shea, from West Muskerry A.C., finished her indoor season in style when she competed in the All-Ireland U19 Indoor Champions in Athlone on Saturday and Sunday, March 23/24.
On the Saturday Rachael competed in the Girls U19 1500m final and after a very slow pace for the first few laps it was going to be a sprint finish over the last lap. Rachael took over the lead with one lap to go and was followed closely by Niamh Markem of Ennis Track. Both girls were neck and neck all the way to the finish line with Rachael being award the silver medal.
On the Sunday Rachael competed in the Girls U19 800m Final and again Niamh Markem of Ennis track led the race from the start. Rachael kept her composure and closed the 20 meter gap that had been opened up and again both girls sprinted to the finish line but Rachael came out on top to clinch the gold medal in a new personal best indoor time of 2min 13 secs. She is now looking forward to the outdoor season.
Eoin Walsh competed in the U18 60m and 200m. Eoin looked very strong for the six weeks of training he had done after coming back from injury and his outdoor season is looking very positive
Pádraig Moynihan will compete in the All Ireland U15 Shot Putt competition in Athlone on April 6 next and we wish him the very best of luck.
