Seeking out Cork's horse racing history
Published 12/04/2012 | 09:15
Dear Editor, I am an historian researching aspects of the history of horsebreeding and horse racing in North Cork and Munster over the past century.
This involves all dimensions of the industry, especially some of the best known breeders, trainers and horses, including the O'briens of Churchtown, the Magniers of Fermoy and Coolmore, Lord Harrington and the Gubbins families of County Limerick, the Mccalmont's of Kilkenny, and so on.
I would be delighted to hear from anyone who may be able to tell me of their memories relating to horses, owners or events, or who would be willing to show me documentary information relating to famous horses and their owners.
I would especially like to hear from anyone who has memoribilia, old photos, and any kind of artifacts relating to the equine industry or who can tell me where to locate such items.
I can be contacted at 0878113611 or by email at email@example.com. Yours sincerely, Bill Power, M.A. Mitchelstown
