THE winner of BBC'S prestigious 'Sound of 2012' poll is to play Cork next month.

Michael Kiwanuka, who recently supported Adele on tour, came top of the music industry insider's poll, which is now in its tenth year.

Voted for by 184 key Uk-based music critics, broadcasters and bloggers, the 'Sound of' poll has in the past tipped then-emerging artists such as Adele, Ellie Goulding and rapper 50 Cent for mainstream success.

A 24-year old soul singer, Kiwanuka has been compared to the likes of Bill Withers and is set to release his debut album, 'Home Again', in March. Michael Kiwanuka will play Cork's Cyprus Avenue on Sunday, February 12 with special guests The Staves.

Tickets cost €12 and are available from Cyprus Avenue, Plugd and online through corkgigs.com.
