Marathon ladies get in training

THREE Mallow ladies are currently limbering up for the 2013 Cork City Ladies Mini Marathon which will be staged in September. Mary Ketch, Carmel O'Sullivan and Mary O'Brien are regular participants and all their efforts go as a fundraiser for the wonderful Mallow Search and Rescue Unit.

PIGEONS GROUNDED

The planned Mallow Pigeon race from Penzance in the south of England was cancelled last weekend due to very bad weather conditions. The minute draw this week was drawn from the drum and the €50 winner was Cathena Mullane. The €10 lucky dip winners were Pat Healy, Quartertown and Alan O'Leary.

MAYORS NOEL AND JOHNNY

Two Mallow men reached new heights in their political careers when Councillor Johnny 'Bottles' Griffin made history by being elected Mallow Town's last Mayor at a special meeting in the Town Hall chamber on Thursday evening last and, just hours later, outgoing Mallow Mayor Noel O'Connor was presented in Cork City with his chain of office as the new Cork County Mayor. We wish both councillors a succesful year in office.

GAA LOTTO

Wheelspinner Willie Mills c/o P.McCarthy won €75 in the Mallow GAA Member's Weekly Lotto draw which was held at Carrigoon on Tuesday June 25. The numbers drawn were 2 - 15 - 23 - 28. The €30 lucky dip winners were Tim O'Riordan, Avondale Park c/o John O'Connell, Brian O'Connor, Rockbrook Lawn c/o Michael McGrath and Noreen Murphy c/o Ray Glynn.

The jackpot is currently at €4,700. Spinning the wheel on Tuesday July 2 was Patsy Barrett, Avondale Park.
