GARDAI in Fermoy have launched an investigation into an alleged unprovoked assault on a woman walking her dog in Rathcormac.

The alleged incident took place last Sunday evening at approximately 9pm as the 32-year-old woman and her partner walked their dog in the village.

It is believed words were exchanged between the couple and a lone male outside a local pub in relation to the dog. According to reports locally, this developed into a row leading to an assault on the woman who lives locally.

A garda spokesman confirmed they had launched an investigation into the incident and are currently viewing CCTV shot in the area around the time.

Gardai have spoken to a number of people who were in the vicinity at the time and their investigation was "following a definite line of enquiry".
