A MAN who was out walking his dog in Mallow town was "simply in the wrong place at the wrong time" and was given a vicious beating by three young men.

At Mallow District court, Inspector Eoghan Healy said the 40 year-old injured party was punched into the face, had received facial and hand lacerations as well as a chipped tooth and a broken rib.

The man ended up spending a night in hospital.

"The injured party was simply in the wrong place at the wrong time walking his dog. It could have been anybody," said the inspector.

In court this week, Conor Buckley and Aaron Wallace - who had no previous convictions at all - pleaded guilty to the assault, and were jailed by Judge Brian Sheridan.Another young man, Craig O'Connor, also pleaded guilty.
