A former teacher in Presentation Convent Primary School in Fermoy since around 1980, Ms Fay has been principal in St Joseph's since 2002.

At her retirement party a number of presentations were made to her in recognition of her outstanding commitment to the education of her pupils by encouragement and example. When Anne took over at St Joseph's it was a two-teacher all-boys school; now, as she leaves, it will have four teachers and 90 pupils on the rolls, including girls.

Mr Brian Shinnick, chairperson of the school's board of management committee, spoke very highly of the retiring Anne's work as principal at St Joseph's and also in her role as a former president of the INTO. He wished her all the best in her retirement and he also wished the best of luck to another one of the school's teachers, Mr John Walsh, who has also left the school on promotion to Principal of Shanballymore NS.

Brian told The Corkman that he welcomed the appointment of Ballyhooley native Kieran McCarthy as principal in place of the retiring Anne, and his group were looking forward to working with Kieran in the coming years.

Kieran is a son of local auctioneer Jim McCarthy and his mother, Lourdes, is a member of the well known Fermoy family the Morrison's, formerly of Rathealy Road.

Kieran is well known in GAA circles in his native Ballyhooly and throughout North Cork.
