Cork will turn orange at the end of April as up to 1,000 cyclists arrive into the County as part of Cycle Against Suicide 2014.

The organisers of Cycle Against Suicide have announced that this year's event is on target to have nearly three times the number of participants as it did in 2013, and that up to 7,000 are expected to take part over the course of the two-week Cycle around the island of Ireland.

Cycle Against Suicide makes stops at schools all along the route to allow the cyclists get some refreshments and to hold special events that promote positive mental health, with St Mary's in Macroom to provide the afternoon break on Thursday, May 1.

The stop will feature high profile speakers, as well as members of the student body and local community, and the main aim of the events is to convey Cycle Against Suicide's core message that 'it's ok not to feel ok and it's absolutely ok to ask for help'.

These events are open to all members of the public and it's also possible to register up for the Cycle at each break location.

Cycle Against Suicide utilises a Homestay programme, which sees homeowners across the country providing a bed and hot meal to participants in the Cycle. The Homestay Coordinator for Cork, Jackie Dornan, said that there is still time for people living in the vicinity of Cork City to offer accommodation or just to help out when the Cycle passes through the Rebel County.

"We're expecting anything up to 1,000 cyclists arriving into Cork on the evening of Wednesday, April 30th so we'll need all the help we can get. We'll also need as many beds as possible for participants," she said.

Anyone who would like to offer accommodation to cyclists when Cycle Against Suicide visits Cork should email homestays@cycleagainstsuicide.com. If you would like to volunteer with Cycle Against Suicide, either before or during the Cycle, please send an email to volunteer@cycleagainstsuicide.com.
