The large crowd mingled, posed for photographs and enjoyed the musical entertainment by students prior to the serious business of distributing awards in a variety of categories.

The night was a welcome opportunity to honour the outstanding achievements of individual students over the previous academic year both inside and outside of the classroom.

It also offered those associated with the school a chance to reflect on what had been a hugely successful year for the entire school.

Addressing the gathering, school principal Christy Healy said the school prided itself on both its academic record and its long association with the local community.

"On a night like this we recognise the efforts made by students to achieve many different goals and as you look at the different awards you can see their achievements are many and varied," said Mr Healy.

"Some recipients have already graduated and we hope they will carry forward the ethos of Coláiste an Chraoibhín throughout their lives. To the students who are still with us, we look forward to your continued presence in our classrooms and hope you will continue to be an inspiration to each other and your fellow students," he added. Mr Healy went onto congratulate parents, the parents' association and the board of management for the generous support they continue to afford the school.

"I would also like to pay tribute to our committed and dedicated staff, without whom nights like this would not be possible," he added.
