THE man behind a series of hilarious animal cartoons, that have taken the internet by storm has been named December Cork Person of the Month.
Jason Sullivan, 27, from Kanturk is the creative comedic genius behind the irreverent Sminky Shorts YouTube cartoon sensation.
Millions of people worldwide have viewed the quirky cartoon shorts on You Tube, which features smart-talking animals with Cork and other Irish accents. Jason's shorts include Handsome Donkey, Fat Rabbit, Awful Sad, Cock-a-Doodle-Doo and many more. They can be viewed on youtube.com/sminkyanimation.
"Jason not only produces the films but also supplies the brilliant voices," noted awards organiser.
"London based United Agents talent agency have now signed up Jason, who works under the pseudonym Andrew James. This is a talent agency that also represents Ricky Gervais, Richard Attenborough, David Dimbleby and Clive James - so they are certainly qualified to recognise his original talent and great potential," added Manus.
The Sminky Short car-
toons were also used this year to advertise Cork Film Festival and Breast Cancer Awareness week.
The self-taught animator, who is studying multimedia at CIT, created his first sminky short cartoon in his bedroom. The series went viral after he produced the 'I Can't Do It' short, featuring a horse with a voice remarkably like Roy Keane's.
Jason will now go forward, for possible selection as Cork Person of the Year, at an awards lunch in January when President Michael D Higgins will be guest of honour.
