OVER the past few years small businesses have had to go the extra mile to survive but one local enterprise is literally scaling new heights, and it's working.

The 'unique selling point' of Air Take Photography based in Meelin, Newmarket is that they reach up, as well as out, for customers. Using telescopic antennae, the Air Take crew of Hannah McMahon and Donal O'Brien are able to get a birds eye view of businesses and events that others simply aren't able to reach.

This proved useful, recently, when they were approached by the owners of the Park Hotel in Kenmare, Co Kerry, one of Ireland's Blue Book Hotels - who had a problem trying to truly capture the scope of their hotel for potential cutomers.

"Speaking with the owners of the hotel, the main point they emphasised was the continuing challenge they faced in trying to comprehensively photograph the hotel and grounds, due to the steep slope which rolls from the hotel down to Kenmare Bay," Hannah explained.

However, that was just the kind of situation Air Take excels in.

"As with every job, we use software and other programmes to quickly research a site, to evaluate the site's photography potential, and establish what we can offer each individual project. And from this, we were happy upon accepting the job that we would be able to deliver what the owners needed," said Hannah. "On arrival to the hotel we knew we would achieve three great angles of the back - which is the main angle continuously - and the front of the hotel - which was never photographed successfully from an aerial view point before because of the large, mature trees which enshroud the front."

So, taking 'aerial' photographs - just, not from an aircraft - Donal and Hannah got the result the hotel was looking for. "On receiving the photos the owners were very impressed with the results and said 'the photos have achieved something that we have long strived to showcase the hotel'," said Hannah.

Snapping up business at a Blue Book hotel was a coup for the Air Take duo, a coup they put down to their unique business angle. "Many people do not realise the alternatives that are available today," said Donal. "Our aerial system is classed as low level aerial photography - which is very different to traditional aircraft photography. It achieves a very different angle of capturing a property, which is great to showcase a property and its assets."

A fortunate spin-off for their business from the Kenmare contract is that now their work will be showcased to a world-wide audience, via the hotel's website.
