THERE was more than a giggle at the recently held Aosta (Association of Services for the Aged) conference in Mitchelstown, where everything from a comedy duo to health matters were open for discussion.

About 150 people who attended the Firgrove Hotel were treated to a host of speakers who were able to provide everything from tips to good health to the importance of making a will.

The annual conference, which has been running for the past six years, kicked off with a health talk by Eleanor O'Connell. She spoke about incontinence and the ability to deal with such an embarrassing subject.

The second speaker, Margaret Noonan, who is a medical herbalist from Fermoy, spoke about a range of cures and treatments for not only common but rare ailments. She also spoke about arthritis, diabetes as well as repiratory problems.

Richard Hammond, a solicitor from Mallow, who has been a popular hit at the conference over the years, discussed the importance of making a will and he had plenty of antidotes and stories.

In the afternoon, Sr Una Boland from Fermoy talked about the importance of de-stressing and how simple exercises can improve mental health.

To keep the mood upbeat, the comedy duo from Waterford, 'The Bachelors in Trouble' had the audience in stitches with their stories, jokes and of course songs.

Eileen Fitzgerald, Aosta chairperson performed as MC and she thanked everyone who took part. She also thanked the organising committee, particularly Bridie Millward, Mary McNamara and Brendan Scahill from the HSE.

Mr Scahill told The Corkman that the day was very enjoyable. "It was great that up to 150 people attended the event. There really was some great information and fun on the day," he said.

The next event for Aosta is the mini jamboree on May 29 at the Hazel Tree in Mallow.
