Over fifty events to take place for Spring season

THE Cork Opera House has unveiled details of its exciting spring season programme, with more than 50 events taking place across two stages over the coming months.

THE Cork Opera House has unveiled details of its exciting spring season programme, with more than 50 events taking place across two stages over the coming months.

Musical highlights will include gigs by Newton Faulkner (Feb 7) Damien Dempsey (Feb 14), The Overtones (Feb 17), John Grant (March 6), O Emperor (March 7), Max T Barnes (March 19), Nathan Carter (April 26), Wallis Bird (April 27) and Tori Amos (May 5).

There will be plenty to laugh about during the season with a host of tops Irish and international comedians playing the venue with Neil Delamere bringing his new show 'Smartbomb' to the venue (March 8 & 29), Russell Kane: Smallness (May 9) and Mario Rosenstock's Gift Grub 3 enjoying a run at the Opera House from My 21 to May 26.

The St Patrick's Festival at the Opera House promises to be an unforgettable event with Belgian funksters 2 Many DJs, Irish indie favourites Little Green Cars, comedian Andrew Maxwell and the Kilfenora Ceili Band all playing over the weekend.

The Opera House will also be playing a central role in the FUAIM Festival celebrating UCCs contribution Cork's cultural life, with John Spillane and the UCC Choir, Julie Feeney, Scullion, Loudest Whisper, Yurodny and Duke Special appearing there between March 21 and March 23.

There will also be plenty of drama over the coming months with Angela Berzien's 'Where in the World is Frank Sparrow', the Callback Theatre's 'Fred an Alice' and the RSCs The Rape of Lucrece among the stand out highlights.

Opera fans will also be in clover with Verdi's Aida (March 27) and Puccini's La Boheme (March 28) set to grace the stage at the historic venue.
