Newmarket to get primary care centre

AN Bord Pleanála has given the green light to a new multi-disciplinary primary healthcare centre in Newmarket.

AN Bord Pleanála has given the green light to a new multi-disciplinary primary healthcare centre in Newmarket.

The mammoth project will see several local GP practices located in the one building, along with a host of HSE services to include nursing, home help, occupational therapy, physiotherapy, speech and language, as well as dental services.

Being spearheaded by local GP, Dr Bertie Daly, it is believed the centre will bring 20-30 full time jobs to the town, as well as potentially another 40 during its construction at West End.

However, the development hasn't come without some controversy as it was subject to an appeal to An Bord Pleanála. "Now is the time for the community of Newmarket to move forward in a positive, unified and dignified manner," said Dr Bertie Daly this week.
