A NEW Primary Care Centre in Fermoy could be ready to open its doors as early as the tail end of 2015 after the HSE confirmed it is in the process of putting in place a lease plan for the proposed new facility.

HSE area manager Ger Reaney has confirmed a letter of intent has been issued to a developer for the provision of the care centre at a site on the Mallow Road near the Town Park under the operational lease model.

The planned new 1,500 sq metre centre will incorporate a comprehensive range of dedicated health services within a single complex, similar to those already operating in Mitchelstown and Mallow.

Mr Reaney said locally based doctors had also "indicated a willingness" to provide GP services from the new facility.

News of the development has been welcomed by Cllr Frank O'Flynn (FF) who said the centre would be "essential for a proactive, joined up approach" to the provision of local health services.
