THE Charleville woman charged with murdering her son has been sent forward for trial to the Central Criminal Court.
Diane Ward (42) of Harrison's Place, Charleville is accused of murdering her eight year old son, Anthony (pictured) at their home on September 3 last.
Ms Ward appeared before a sitting of Limerick District Court on Tuesday via video link. She spoke briefly to confirm her name and that she could see and hear proceedings.
The court was told that Ms Ward had agreed to have the book of evidence in her case served on her solicitor, Paul Cagney, by Mallow based garda Superintendent Pat McCarthy.
Supt McCarthy confirmed that the Director of Public Prosecutions had consented to her being sent forward for trial to the Central Criminal Court. Judge Eugene O'Kelly issued Ms Ward with a formal alibi notice, explaining to her that she had 14 days to give the State contact details for any defence witnesses that may be called during her forthcoming trial. The Judge also granted an application by Mr Cagney to extend legal aid to include one senior and one junior council.
Ms Ward was subsequently remanded in custody to appear for trial at the current sittings of the Central Criminal Court.
Meanwhile, the inquest into the death of Anthony Ward was due to open at the Coroner's Court in Mallow on Wednesday but has now been put back to a later date.
