Mallow's model citizens
Students from Davis College in Mallow represented Ireland in the Carvalhos Model United Nations in Porto, Portugal last week.
This conference - one of the most prestigious in the Iberian Peninsula - had over 300 delegates from international schools such as the American and German schools of Lisbon, The Oporto British school, amongst many others.
The Davis College students represented delegations such as Iran, Amnesty International, Thailand and the Netherlands in the model UN debates. The success of their participation was adjudged as 'outstanding' and student Ciarán Teape, who was the delegate of Iran, was awarded the title of Best Junior Delegate at the conference.
Besides participating in the Model United Nations conference, the Davis College students also brought the Cycle Against Suicide to Porto, where they raised awareness about this issue amongst the Portuguese community.
In addition, they met with the novelist Richard Zimler after reading his novel 'The Warsaw Anagrams' and made presentations in the Oporto International School about Mallow, Cork and Irish culture in general.
