WHAT was supposed to be a joyous time for one Macroom couple soon turned to a stressful rush to get their newborn a lifesaving operation.
Five years later, Pamela and Liam Buckley happily report that daughter Isabelle is happy and healthy - thanks to the work of Our Lady's Childrens Hospital at Crumlin in Dublin.
Now the family have shown their appreciation by organising a successful fundraiser for th hospital.
"Isabelle is five now, but the day she was born she was diagnosed with a heart condition and was brought to Dublin within a few hours," Pamela told The Corkman,
"She is fine now, and started school in September, but underwent an operation when she was a week old."
To thank the hospital the Buckley's recently hosted a fundraiser in Macroom's Church Lane Restaurant, which is run by Pamela's sisters. Guests on the night enjoyed music, food, kids activities and spot prizes, including cook books donated by celebrity chef Derry Clarke.
In all the event raised €2,233 and the Buckleys have thanked Church Lane Restaurant for the setting, Derry Clarke and the local businesses who donated spot prizes and Siobhan Healy, Aoife Corkery and Mairead Lynch for providing the children's entertainment.
