Henry Ford and the Cork Connection
Muskerry Local History Society are organising a lecture on 'Henry Ford, the Cork Connection'. The lecturer, Denis McSweeney, will talk about the origins of the Ford family in Cork and the foundation of the Ford vehicle manufacturing company by Henry Ford to become one of the largest Corporations in the United States.
He will also discuss the establishment of the Ford factory on the Marina in Cork which set Ireland on the road to industrialisation in 1917.
Henry Ford's subsequent history will be outlined and the history of the changing fortunes of the Marina factory and its eventual closure.
Denis, a native of Gurranabraher, joined Ford Cork in 1971 and worked his way to become Ford Marketing Director in Cork. This lecture is being held to commemorate the founding of the Ford factory in Cork, 100 years ago in 1917. The lecture will be held at 8pm on Monday, 20 March in Ballincollig Rugby Club and everyone is welcome to attend.
