Government 'must build M20'

Cork North West TD, Michael Moynihan has said that he is growing worried that funding to construct the M20 motorway will not be delivered despite assurances.

Deputy Moynihan was commenting after reports last weekend that Minister Paschal Donohoe, the Minister charged with delivering capital investment, said that he would be fast tracking funding to other projects, particularly in Dublin.

"Undoubtedly, if additional funding is made available to other projects, there will be less for existing projects such as the much needed M20 motorway project between Cork and Limerick.

"Once again, regional Ireland is being overlooked. We need fairness when it comes to the allocation of capital investment across the country. A balanced, development strategy would recognise that for the country to prosper, both the capital and the regional need investment, he said.

"We need to make living and working in Munster attractive to both employers and employees. This requires reducing commuting times, and for the much-travelled journey between Limerick and Cork that means building the M20," he said.
