DUHALLOW folk can expect to do a double take as Wild Boar warriors are set to take over the town next weekend. Thankfully, it will all be part of the Wild Boar Festival.

The fun and frolics will kick off on Thursday, July 17 with a five km fun run or walk with the starting point at the Alley Bar. Anyone who has a breath left after their run can grab a table and set up a team of four for a table quiz at the Park which will kick off at 10pm.

On Friday sweet music will flow as there will be singing and recitation in Linn Gorm from 2-4pm. The sound of karting will take place at 7pm at the Green field Road.

What is set to be a major attraction for the little nippers is the free 'beat on the street' will take place at Strand Street from 7.30pm until 9pm. Not forgetting the moms and dads, there will be live open air music with 'nightshift,' until 11pm.

What is set to get the ladies of Duhallow swooning will be the Top Gunz Show at the Edel Quinn Hall with doors opening at 7.30pm. Top Gunz had better be prepared for the hysteria and the screaming on the night and admission to this event costs €15.

The Corkman are the media sponsors of the festival which will run until Sunday, July 20. Throughout the week, there will be lots of music in a host of bars in the town.

While many will be toe tapping and singing along to the music or having a go at Karaoke, some people might want to tackle something sturdier. Well, look no further than the Oakley Wild Boar Challenge which will take place at Kanturk Rugby Club on Saturday, July 19.

There will be plenty of action with flipping a tractor tyre and pushing a Yaris 100 metres as well as a 10km run. Participants who have the energy left in the tank can relax and dance at the 'live in the square' event which has music by Planet Claire.

On Sunday, July 20, the Duhallow Artisan Food and Craft Village will take place in the Park. While warriors will run amuck in the town, people can expect the waft of home made food as over 30 exhibitors will set up their stands.

The artisan food and craft fair has been organised by Niall O'Keeffe of Wild Boar Promotions. As well as the Wild Boar warriors, there will also be a medieval living history group as well as face painters, balloon modellers and lots more.

A major attraction will be the 'night of lights' which will take place in Greenane Park.

There will be a fireworks display as well as a BBQ and it will be an ideal place and time to catch up with friends. People are advised to bring a blanket so they can sit down and have some great food and watch the glow in the dark as well as the fireworks display. And not forgetting the music which will be by DJ Anthony Fleming.
