Given a splendid drive, he chased the leaders from the early stages, racing in a very moderate third at half way. Six out he began to make eyecatching progress, and improved to lead three out, ridden. Cleverly staying on the favoured rails position, he kept on well from the last under a stylish drive from the saddle, to win easily by four lengths from Bendala Blue.

Lenihan, who is brother of jockey Maurice Lenihan currently having an excellent season with John Joe O'Neill at Cheltemham, rides out mostly for Enda Bolger, and the seriously injured John Thomas McNamara.

At Sedgefield on Friday Brian's brother Maurice scored a double on Abnaki 17/2 in the 3ml3f handicap hurdle, and Carlton Jack the 13/8fav in the 2ml4f h/cap hurdle.
