Gavin Cronin (30) of Dromdubh, Macroom pleaded guilty before Judge James McNulty to drink driving and careless driving on Barrack Lane on August 16, 2013.

The court heard that an on-duty Garda observed the accused of "swerving at speed" on the night in question and pulled him over.

Mr Cronin failed a breath test which showed him to be slightly over the limit at 25mgs of alcohol per 100mls of breath.

Defence for Mr Cronin, who is currently serving a prison sentence for a previous offence, said that he had consumed "a few cans" before driving and didn't realise he was over the limit.

He was disqualified from driving for six months and given two €200 fines.
