Deirdre begins battle to regain her glamour
OPERATION TRANSFORMATION 2013
OPERATION Transformation returned to our screens this week for its sixth series of what has become a national phenomenon.
Deirdre Hosford from Whitechurch was one of the five leaders chosen from around the country to embark on her personal transformation and inspire others on her journey.
32 year old Deirdre is a stay at home mum with two young sons, Jack aged 2 and 4 month old Kian.
A qualified beauty therapist who managed The Nail Bar in Brown Thomas when it first opened, Deirdre took great pride in her appearance and longs for a bit of her former glamour.
But Deirdre's real motivation comes after losing her father last year. She says he would be 'so proud' to see her getting healthy.
Having struggled with her weight since puberty, Deirdre has seen the problem compounded after two pregnancies and is determined to get healthier for the sake of her young family.
Deirdre's husband, Will, is a garda who works long shifts, leaving Deirdre alone on long winter evenings with nothing else to do but reach for the biscuit tin.
Operation Transformation, now in its sixth year, hosts a number of nationwide events during the series.
These include a nationwide walk which will be held in over 30 venues around the country and two 5k fun runs on February 23rd in Dublin and Cork.
There will also be a number of roadshows where people can meet the leaders and learn more about health lifestyles.
The first event will be the third annual walk which takes place in Blarney on January 19.
Deirdre will participate in the walk and be filmed by the RTE camera crew.
Last years' event saw over 550 people take to the streets of Mallow for a 3.4km walk along the Sli na Slainte route.
This years' walk will commence at 11am after taking registrations from 10.30am.
The route will start out from Blarney GAA travelling 4.5km around the town and finishing up with a breathtaking loop of the Blarney Castle grounds before returning to the GAA Club for light refreshments.
More information and maps of the route are available from Claire on 021 466083 or log on to www.corksports.ie.
