DAIRYGOLD is set to spend €33 million to expand and upgrade its milk processing capabilities at its Castlefarm site in Mitchelstown.

The planned development, part of the company's plan to meet the expected 50% increase in milk production following the lifting of quotas in 2015, will create up to 100 new jobs during construction and commissioning.

It makes provision for a new six-tonne/hour multi-purpose milk drying facility and other infrastructural developments at the Castlefarm site.

Junior Innovation Minister Sean Sherlock described the announcement as "great news for Cork and the wider Munster area."

Dairygold CEO Jim Woulfe said the announcement heralded the first phase of the company's ambitious post 2015 expansion programme.

All produce from the expanded Mitchelstown operation will be destined for export markets.
