CHEQUES totalling €95,000 will make their way to seven community groups in Duhallow, with the lion's share of €37,500 going to Millstreet.

At the Kanturk Area meeting on Friday morning, Director of Services Tom Stritch told councillors that under the Community Fund Allocation 2013, they had received 10 applications. However, he outlined that two had fallen below the threshold for qualification for consideration, and another was outside the scope of the scheme.

Millstreet Tidy Towns & Tourism Association will get €37,500 for the refurbishment of the town square.

However, Charleville is set to receive €32,000. Charleville Community Sports Complex Ltd will receive €13,000 for an all weather pitch including lighting and fencing. Charleville Community Childcare Ltd will receive €9,500 for the renovation of their premises at Main Street.

In addition, Charleville (Chapel St) Community Hall Ltd will also receive €9,500 for the renovation of its premises.

Kanturk Rugby Club will receive €9,500 to renovate its club rooms and Newmarket Community Development Association will receive €8,000 to renovate its CYMS Hall.

Banteer Community Sportsfield will also get €8,000 for its playing pitches, sanding, aeration and drainage.

Chairman of the Kanturk Area meeting, Cllr Gerard Murphy (FG) said the Community Fund Allocation grant was very important to voluntary organisations.

All councillors welcomed the funding.
