Clyda Rovers on course for successful classic
CLYDA ROVERS GAA Club are in a drive to match their success on the pitch to a winner on the golf course later this month.
The club launched their annual golf classic at Cork County Hall last week with a call to arms to get those clubs swinging. This is the 18th year of the classic and it's an event that goes from strength to strength each year.
As always it takes place in Mallow Golf Club, this year on Thursday and Friday, May 29 and 30.
Organizer John Roche remarked how well supported the club classic is every year. "Each year we get amazing support from the local businesses and people," said John. "It's a great club occasion and luckily the sunny weather always seems to shine for us."
John also praised the Mallow course, which has seen some great competitions in recent weeks.
"Mallow Golf Club are always great to deal with and the course is always in superb condition, we are really looking forward to the two days," said John.
Like the last few years, the sponsor of the event is Derry and Doreen Murphy of the Railway Bar in Mourneabbey. Derry, who was at the launch, said himself and Doreen, "along with the lads", are always proud to be associated with the Clyda event.
"We always look forward to the day every year and we need support from as many people as possible to make this event successful as it always has been," said Derry.
The launch at County Hall finished with a few words from Club Chairman Jeremiah Ronayne. "Last year was a successful one on the pitch, but with that comes other challenges, and a successful golf classic is very important for our club," said Mr Ronayne, who added: "It's incredible this is the 18th year of the event.
He thanked all the local businesses and people who, year in year out, support the club. "We hope to see a great crowd at the classic," added Jer as he thanked all who attended the launch".
