The 2017 Flower of Macroom contest took place before a packed audience in the Riverside Park Hotel on Saturday night last with the 12 girls taking part representing businesses, clubs and associations from across Macroom and the Lee Valley region.

Each of the girls was very talented and entertaining and, of course, MC Kevin Moynihan was at his usual best with great banter with the contestants and the audience which, at times, was very comical.

Adjudicators Annette and Claire from Cinderella's Closet Bridal Wear and Seán Óg O'Duinnin, had some trouble in choosing the 2017 Flower of Macroom as all the girls put in a powerful performance but they finally agreed on Laura Creedon from Cill na Martra who was representing Naomh Aban Ladies.

Laura's selection was a popular one and was greeted with cheers from her supporters and all members of the audience. As she was being crowned Pat O'Connell, Chairman of the Lee Valley Enterprise Board sang Mount Massey the Flower of Macroom. The winner was presented with a cheque for €500, beautiful jewellery from Matt Murphy's Jeweller's and a cosmetic hamper from Deasy's Pharmacy.

Laura, who is training to be a veterinary nurse, will be a great representative of Macroom and the Lee Valley region.
