THE club members at Churchtown GAA have every reason to smile as they have secured the lions share of funding to the tune of €120,000 under the Sports Capital Programme.
Gerry Murphy, who is a member of the infrasture committee and who put the mammoth application together, said it would be fair to say that everyone is "very pleased" at having got such a wallop of funding.
There are plans now in place to build a 5,500 square foot sports hall and planning has already been granted for the project at Kerry's Lane, which is to the western side of the existing sports stand.
Mr Murphy told The Corkman that tenders for the project, which will cost €320,000, will be sent out next month.
"We were very pleased to get this funding, but we did submit a comprehensive application and we already had our planning in place, which was great," he said.
He explained that the sports complex will be built in two phases.
The first comes with a price tag of €220,000 and the second will cost €100,000.
As Churchtown GAA now has €120,000 in the coffers, he said that the club had "substantial funds" in place for entire project.
"We already have substantial funds in place which will be a great help to us with this project," he said. It's their aim that the Sports Hall will be open by Easter 2016.
