MID CORK'S hosting of a world fishing championship received further good news this week following the announcement that Cork County Council is to make a contribution towards the funding of development works on Inniscarra Lake.
The Inniscarra Lakes Tourism Development Community Group have brought the 2014 World Feeder Fishing Championships to Coachford next summer, having secured €133,560 in LEADER funding for works on the lake.
The funding has been allocated towards the development of a 2.8km amenity walk that would provide slipways and access to the lake, and now the project has received a €40,000 boost from Cork County Council.
Cllr Michael Creed (FG) has welcomed the additional funding announcement. "I warmly welcome the provision of this funding by Cork County Council which will support the Development Committees efforts in preparing the site for next year's world Championships," said Deputy Creed.
"Tremendous work has been done on this project to date and I'm pleased Cork County Council can supplement these efforts with much needed funding."
He said he hoped the development group can now continue their momentum and complete the necessary work on the site as soon as possible".
"I'm sure next year's championships will provide a welcome boost in terms of tourism and trade in the area and that the visitors due from over 30 countries will return home full of praise for the Lee Valley area," he said.
