Big thank you from 'grotto' organisers
ORGANISERS of the successful Santa's Grotto at Mallow Castle have sent out a big "Thank You" to the local community for getting behind the initiative.
Hundreds of people turned up for the event, the first in Mallow to welcome in the festive season, held by White Deer Events, a mini-company set up by TY students from Davis College.
Teacher Jamie Herlihy said the hard work put in by students in the lead up to the event paid dividends – particularly for a number of local charities.
"We were delighted with the turn-out and greatly appreciated the patience shown by families while waiting to see Santa. It was a great occasion and a wonderful way to welcome the Christmas season in Mallow," said Mr Herlihy.
"We are also grateful to Cork County Council and the numerous individuals and businesses that supported, sponsored and believed in our idea," he added.
Mr Herlihy said it gave him and the TY pupils "great pride" to be able to say the event allowed them to give something back to the community in the form of charitable donations.
"We will be giving €1,000 from our takings on the day to the Le Cheile Family Resource Centre in Mallow and €250 to the National Children's Hospital in Crumlin," he said.
"This would not have been possible without the support of the public and the hard work of the pupils without which Santa's Grotto could not have been possible," he added.
Mr Herlihy said that all of the Santa photos taken on the day would be sent out this week.
