Newmarket Sports and Leisure were pleased to announce this week that the construction of their all weather astro turf project is at the final stages of construction.

The pitch will be available to clubs for training, birthday parties, school events, school outings, sporting organisations, training camps, community groups, festival events and much more.

The astroturf, which measures 55m x 30m is floodlight, includes Shock Pad (helps prevent injury), synthetic carpet, and is large enough to incorporate two games simultaneously. Changing facilities will be available and there is free parking.

The estimated cost of the project is €230,000. €200,000 has been raised to date through various local fundraising events and funding from the IRD (Duhallow) Leader grant scheme.

To drive this project over the finishing line, people can still donate in various ways such as Life Membership of the Adult GAA for €500, join the lotto costing €45 for 6 months, €85 for 1 year and €170 for 2 years OR donate any amount of your choice through Newmarket Sports and Leisure account in Newmarket Credit Union.

Another new project near completion is the building of a hurling wall adjoining the astroturf pitch. This will improve hurling standings through skill development and increase the enjoyment of the game for everyone, facilitating team training and allowing teams/individual players to further test their skills.
