A MAJOR refurbishment of Kilshannig Community Hall is on the cards after it recently received funding to the tune of €145,000.
The funding has been provided by the Avondhu Blackwater Partnership, as part of the Leader Rural Development Programme.
The hall, which is in excess of 4,500 square feet will feature a new entrance hall, foyer, new toilets, kitchen, office, dressing room and multi-purpose room and main hall.
Micheal Casey, chairperson of the Kilshannig Community Centre Development Association, thanked the Avondhu Blackwater Partnership and in particular Niall Walshe, its development officer. He also thanked the officers within the Kilshannig Community Centre Development association, Ronnie Dunne, Der Cronin, John K Sheehan and the wider community. He also thanked Cork County Council for their financial contribution of €15,000.
"This is marvellous news for the parish of Kilshannig and in particular the villages of Glantane and Lombardstown who use the hall," said Cllr John Paul O'Shea (Ind). "The parish, like so many others throughout the country, has grown considerably in recent years with a significant number of young families choosing to live in the area.
"The refurbishment of Kilshannig Community Hall will only enhance the community life in the area and will also help to address the current identified needs of the area".
Works will commence shortly on the refurbishment and the committee will be working to keep the disruption of services at the hall to a minimum during this time.
