THE Community Council in Castleyons is seeking the help of local residents to compile its own historical 'census' of the parish.
The initiative is just one of a number of projects planned by the council over the coming months to celebrate 'The Gathering 2013'.
Community council spokesman James Ronayne said that research forms have been sent to every family in the parish. "We hope to gather information on each house including its occupants and where they originated. We also want to find out about families who may have left the parish and where they went to," said James.
"This will be an invaluable resource to future generations who may want a snapshot of Castlelyons on 2013 or to people who are trying to trace relatives," he added.
"We would also like to secure pictures of any events and gatherings over the years and any stories be they folklore, actual events of strange happenings that have occurred over the years in the parish," said James.
"These are all treasures that need to be preserved for the future and will be lost if they are not recorded and documented," he added.
Anyone with information is asked to contact firstname.lastname@example.org or 086 8237538.
The resulting 'census' book, one page for each house, will be the centrepiece of a historical exhibition over the August bank-holiday weekend, part dedicated cerebration of The Gathering.
