Plenty of issues discussed at hurling AGM

THE AGM for the Banteer hurling club took place in the Glen Theatre last weekend.
Issues which came up for discussion included, the amalgamation for a second year with Dromtarriffe at under-21 grade as Dr Pat O Callaghan's, the amount of games required to be played at both the Junior levels in football and hurling by the end of May, and efforts which could be made at increasing the fundraising capabilities of the club.
With no hesitation, three of the existing officers agreed to say on, with Con Lane as Chairman, Martin Barry as Secretary and Connie Tarrant as Treasurer.
Huge credit was due to all three for their fine work in the positions in 2012, a reflection of this evident in the fact that there was no challenge to the nominations.
Management of teams threw up no surprises as managers at both levels were reinstated for another years work. Denis Withers as Junior A manager and Martin Barry as Junior B manager.
It was also decided at the meeting that the club would increase the membership to €50 for all members, a move which was recognised as being necessary for the future of the club. This met no opposition as the attendance expressed views on how most other clubs had been at prices equal to this and higher for the past number of years.
Those attending the meeting also received information in relation to the recently published five-year plan from Banteer Community Council, and it was widely accepted that the work being done by them for our community was of an excellent standard.
Officers of the club expressed their concern at the attendance levels at monthly meetings, and urged more members to become active in the club.
The January monthly meeting will take place on the last Thursday of the month, Thursday, January 31.
Banteer GAA would sincerely like to thank The Glen Theatre for the use of their facilities.
