Permission granted for playground

Published 10/01/2013 | 09:18

The new year has got off to a great start in Kilcorney with the announcement of planning permission by Cork County Council to the Kilcorney Play Ground and Sports Field Group for the construction of a new play-ground, multi-games pitch and village garden which will be constructed on the site adjacent to the Kilcorney Social Centre.

Speaking after the granting of the planning permission group chairman Mr. Niall Buckley described it as the culmination of almost three years of hard work. He said this development work, which will begin in under two months, will see a badly needed facility put in place for the growing number of parents with young children in Kilcorney.

He said the success of the project to date is due to the hard work and dedication of all the members of the group. Niall also thanked Airtricity and the Green Energy Company for the extraordinary financial support that they have given to date and also to IRD Duhallow and Cork County Council for the provision of funding to this project.

Kilcorney Development Association Chairman Mr. Donie Howard in welcoming the new development said this will be the completion of a circle in Kilcorney as there will now be facilities within the village to cater for the needs of the very young to the senior members of our community.

He also paid credit to the group who he said stayed with the project despite all the problems which they encountered along the way. Kilcorney Community Council Chairperson Ms. Cliona Browne said that this was a much needed facility for the young people of Kilcorney as our village was one of the few places that did not have a green area for the children to play safely on.

She also said that this facility would be used for generations to come. Local National School principal Mr Con Meade said that it will be a facility that will be of immense benefit to the school. They are privileged to have the use of the Community Centre and the excellent facilities within but there is still nothing to beat a bit of fresh air and a green area that the children can play football in or use the playground.

Dromtariffe Ladies Football Club will hold their AGM in the clubrooms on January 11th. Could Junior players and parents of underage members please attend. Meeting commences at 8pm. Your support would be appreciated.
