THE LATE CON MEANEY R.I.P. REMEMBERED: On Monday night last history was enacted in Rathcoole National School when the three Fianna Fail Cumanns of Rathcoole, Dromagh and Derrinagree were amalgamated into one Dromtarriffe Parish Cumann.
It was proposed, seconded and carried to name the Cumann after a highly regarded Politican serving as a T.D. From 1937 up to his retirement in 1965.
The late Con Meaney was also a Cork Co Councillor with unbroken service from his election in 1928 up until his death on the 11th September 1970 (42 years).
So it is with great pride the Fianna Fail Cumann of Dromtarriffe will go foward and carry out its duties as a Fianna Fail Cumann in the name of this very honourable man.
Tom Meaney son of the late Con spoke very eloquently, emotionally and is very proud and honoured that the new Dromtarriffe Cumann will be named after his late Father.
It is a great honour to himself but most of all to the Meaney Family and he sincerely thanked the meeting for affording them this very prestigious honour.
The meeting was chaired by our local Fianna Fail T. D, Michael Moynihan who spoke very praiseworthy of the deeds of the late Con.
There was a good participation by one and all at the meeting it was decided to put an ad-hoch committee inplace to organize the registeration of the new Cumann (one from each of the three former cumanns) and set up a general meeting to elect the officers proper of the new Cumann. This meeting will take place in the Fairfield Room Dromtarriffe Community Hall on Tuesday night April 10th at 8pm sharp.
