THERE was a welcome boost to the funding for roads in Duhallow as an extra €80,000 has been added to the original road budget of €7.4 million.
At the Kanturk area meeting on Friday, senior executive area engineer Pat Corbett said under the four year roads programme the funding is now €7,527,522.
He told councillors that at their December 2012 meeting, a copy of the four year programme was given to all councillors. However, since that time extra projects were placed on it, which included road works from the Kiskeam side entering Ballydesmond village to the junction at the village and out towards the Newmarket road. For that section of road which totals 400 metres, just shy of €85,000 has been allocated.
Mr Corbett also said that 500 metres of road which stretches from the Castle at Kanturk right up to the mart will also be done with €127,500 allocated for this work to be undertaken.
He said the extra funding became available because of the seven and a half percent given from the Community Involvement Scheme is being put into the four year roads programme.
Councillors at the meeting welcomed the extra money. Cllr Timmy Collins (Ind) asked that a stretch of road at Rowels, Meelin be prioritised as it is in an awful condition.
Mr Corbett said that Cork County Council are prioritising roads that are deemed in most need.
