Mission complete for Winter Wonderland

EVENT SCALED DOWN BUT STILL A GREAT SUCCESS

FERMOY Business Action Group Chairman Cllr Noel McCarthy has expressed his great satisfaction with the success of last weekend's Winter Wonderland Carnival which was held in the old Mart Site in the town.

While agreeing that it could not compete beside the wonderful shows of the past two years which were staged in the Town Park on each occasion, the loss of the funding which was instrumental in making those shows so spectacular meant that the group had to find alternatives if they were to continue to attract crowds to Fermoy at this time of the year.

Noel and his group were sorry that they were not able to repeat the shows of 2010/11, but he is very satisfied that their efforts - with the help of Mary and Pat Williams and Co - did bring the crowds on Saturday and Sunday. Noel told The Corkman that the weekend was a bumper one for the traders in the town, which the organiser were very pleased about.

Perhaps the highlight of the weekend was the fireworks display on Sunday night, which was certainly a most spectacular. Much of the credit and thanks for this are expressed to local trader Dave Ryan of the Amber Station on the Dublin Road - without his generous sponsorship Fermoy would not have enjoyed its best fireworks display seen in the town for many years.

Noel and the group have taken heart from this event and are already planning to expand on the idea for next December.
