Charleville achieved the highest increase in marks in North Cork in this year's national tidy town's competition.

Charleville was awarded an additional 13 marks in the competition which was a fantastic achievement and well deserved by the hard working committee members.

The tidy town's committee members, Aileen Browne and Tommy Kavanagh, the honorary secretary and chairperson, respectively were on hand to accept the award from Minister Deenihan, which also included a cheque for €500.

Ms Browne said they were receiving the award on behalf of the many individuals and groups who had done tremendous work in Charleville over the past 12 months and, indeed, all those who had helped in the past years.

For the coming year the committee intend to build on the success achieved this year in anticipation of further success in the competition.
