Macra team gets to semi-finals

Heartiest congratulations to our debating team of John O'Dwyer, Sinead Guiney, Owen Bourke and Thomas Stritch who took part in the Regional Quarter Finals on Friday last in Castletownroche and secured themselves a place in the Semi Finals in the coming weeks.
In what was a great display of teamwork and research the Freemount team overcame tough competition from Ballyhoura Macra.
We wish them all the best in the next round. Freemount Macra are holding a fundraising Ceili on Friday March 1, in the Edel Quinn Hall in Kanturk in aid of St Patrick's Marymount Hospice at 9:30pm with music from the Neily O' Connor Ceili Band.
It is a case of all roads lead to Carlow this weekend coming for the National Semi-finals of Capers, Macra's variety show in Tullow on January 19th.
The cast and crew have been very working hard over the last period and we wish them the very best of luck and we wish all those travelling up to Carlow a safe journey.
Freemount Macra are also entering the Macra drama competition this year and practice for this will be commencing in the coming weeks. Weekly sports nights continue in Boherbue at 7.30 in Tuesday nights.

The weekly 45 Drive was well attended on Sunday night last. The following is the monthly rainfall recorded at Freemount Waterworks last year. January - 126.9mm. February - 38.1mm. March - 26mm. April - 131.2mm. May - 41.6mm. June - 220.1mm. July - 79.5mm. August - 185.5mm. September - 48.1mm. October - 109.7mm. November - 148.1mm. December - 150.8mm. Total Rainfall for the year was 1305.6mm. (Total rainfall for 2011 was 1112.3mm.). The driest Month in 2012 was March. The wettest was June. The wettest day was June 2 when we got 36.9mm. of rain. We had 16 days without rain during March. We had 3 days in June, 3 days in July and 3 days in August without rain.
FREEMOUNT COMMUNITY ALERT
Church Gate Collection: Community Alert would greatly appreciate your support towards a 'Muintir Na Tire' Church Gate collection at both masses next weekend Sat 19th & Sun 20th January. Freemount CA register annually with Muintir Na Tire who keeps us in touch regarding developments and resources available to us, and help us with our annual Senior Alert Scheme applications.
Seniors Alert Scheme: We will keep you posted regarding a meeting mid Feb to plan for the year ahead, and applications for any personal monitored alert systems needed. As you will be aware, due to considerable pressure from voluntary groups around the Country, the Dept has now thankfully backtracked on the proposed cuts to the Senior Alert Scheme.
ANNUAL LOURDES MASS
The Annual Diocesan Lourdes Mass will be celebrated this year in Fermoy on Monday February 11, at 7.30pm.. It is proposed to hire a bus as usual to attend this Mass if sufficient numbers are interested in travelling. If you are interested in travelling by bus to this Mass you should ring Mary for full information on 02228737. This should be done immediately so that the bus can be booked in good time.
The A.G.M.of Freemount GAA was held in the meeting room on Fri. 11th. Jan.with a large attendance.
Chairman Michael O'Regan presided and thanked all his fellow officers for their help over the last three years. He announced that a new trainer was appointed, namely John Mortell.
The outgoing Secretary Willie John o Flynn gave a long and detailed review of the past year.
Treasurer Michael John o Regan accounted for the finances for 2012. Speculation is already mounting as to who will be the more successful hurling selectors in 2013, Junior A the 3 Mikes or Junior B the 3 Johns. The G.A.A. are presenting a variety concert in the Community Centre on Saturday 26th, January at 8pm. Admission will be €10 and national school children will be free.
