EVERY year, two transition year students from McEgan College are chosen to become voluntary youth helpers on the Cloyne Diocesan Pilgrimage to Lourdes.

The pilgrimage takes place in the first week of June every year. This year we had a huge number of applicants, but only two lucky candidates were chosen - Irene Murphy and Caitriona O'Donoghue. As pilgrims in Lourdes, Irene and Caitriona will participate by helping out at meal times, transport (including wheelchairs, voitures and blue chairs) and most importantly will share their time, talent, friendship and good humour.

Every year, with the help of their teachers - Mrs. Cait Clifford and Ms. Carol Warren, enough money is raised to send the two chosen students to Lourdes. In April, the school will hold its annual 'Lourdes Walk'.

First, second years and fourth year students will all be given sponsorship cards and the money raised will go directly towards sending Irene and Caitriona to Lourdes this coming June. €1200 is the target amount. A big undertaking for the school, but an undertaking that is extremely worthwhile and important.
