Little controversy at athletics board meeting

Published 17/01/2013 | 08:56

THE Cork County Board of AAI Convention was held in The Oriel Hotel, Ballincollig, on Saturday.

It was a meeting of little controversy but showed the Board to be in a good financial position. In the election of officers Esther Fitzpatrick, Club Secretary was re-elected as Chairperson of the juvenile county committee, Joseph Cusack was elected as County Delegate to Munster Council and Tim Fitzpatrick, Masters Representative to Munster Council.

There were no rule changes to upcoming track and field season rules.

Cross-country fixtures for 2013 were agreed with the juvenile dates and venues as follows: Sunday, October 6 - even age at Carrignavar; Sunday, October 13 - uneven age at West Muskerry and Sunday, October 27 - County B at St. Catherine's, Conna.

Track and field county juvenile championships will be Sundays, May 5 and May 12, and juvenile relay day Sunday, May 26.

These dates will be confirmed at next Board meeting in February.

AT HOME

Registrations for 2013 are progressing well and anyone turning up at training from this weekend on will have to be registered.

This is a requirement for everyone, i.e., athletes, coaches, officials. This is an association rule and there is no way around it. If there are any difficulties phone Esther 087 6888591.

TRAINING

Training will continue Tuesdays in Liscarroll and Fridays in Charleville from 6.30 to 8pm. As training on these nights is totally different athletes are requested to attend both as

often as possible.

LITTLE ATHLETICS

This initiative started in September and will continue Thursday nights from 6.30 to 7.30.

Most parents have completed and returned 2013 registration forms along with fees and we appeal to those still outstanding to return forms. Registration is from January 1 to December 31.

UPCOMING EVENTS

On Saturday, January 19, there is a development training day in Nenagh Indoor Stadium for children aged U9, U10, U11 and U12 with some introductory competitions.

We would advise that every child in these age groups should go.

Parents unable to travel should try to make arrangements with a friend or neighbour to help out.

MUNSTER CHAMPIONSHIPS

Indoor championships for the above age groups will be held in Nenagh Saturday, February 9, and Sunday, February 10, and all will be required to go. It will be boys on one day and girls the other.

The older age groups will be in action Saturday/Sunday, February 23/24.
