Great night at Clyda Rovers GAA social
CLYDA ROVERS GAA: A Good Sized attendance attended the Clyda Rovers GAA Victory Social in the Hibernian Hotel Mallow last Wednesday Night, March 16th. It was great year for the Club. Having two Clyda Players picking up to All Ireland Senior Football Medals in the biggest day in the Irish Sporting Calendar was the Highlight added to that they won 2 National Football League Medals as well as with Paudie Kissane winning an All Star.
The Minor Team winning the Minor B Hurling County was without question the Club's big achievement in 2011. The U21's did the North Cork football and Hurling Double and The Premier Intermediate Footballers came so close again to winning the Prem Intermediate Football Title but were denied by 1 point in the final against Newcestown.
MC for the Night Jer Ronayne welcomed all the guests especially special Guests, Ray Carey, Paudie Kissane, Jim Healy of Coiste na Nog, Jerry Sullivan Cork Senior Football Selector and of Course Sam Maguire. Gerry O'Sullivan paid tribute to the Clyda Club for providing two great Players like Paudie and Ray to the cause of securing the All Ireland. For a small club like Clyda he said it was an unbelievable honour. He paid tribute to the club many of them he played inter firm with in his Ballyclough Co-Op days.
Jim Healy Paid tribute to the Minor Hurlers on their great victory in the county final. The Player of the Year was presented to Ray Carey for a club record 3rd time and clubman of the year presented to Fergal Cronin, Club Treasurer also for a record 2nd time out of three years. The U21 Football and Hurling North Corks were presented to the Panels by Jerry O'Sullivan, lead by captains Fionn O'Shea and Donal Carey.
The amount of Cork Players we had at the club last year was also acknowledged with presentations. They were Cork Junior Footballers Fionn O Shea, Ollie O Hanlon, Cian Conway, Cork Minor Hurler Chris Buckley, Cork Vocational Munster Winner Conor Flanagan and Conor O Sullivan, Cork Minor Footballer who won a Munster minor Medal and Played In the All-Ireland Final against Tyrone.
The Clyda Minor Hurlers then got presented their minor medals by Jim Healy and Past .
The Final Speech of the Night was by Club Chairman John Roche. As always he gave a fantastic account of the year gone by and praised all the previous award winners for the success throughout the year.
He finished his speech by paying tribute to the county minor team and to pride of place of Sam Maguire and Paudie and Ray. He said these days like this may never come again for the club and we should treasure the memories we had in 2010.
Ray said a few words and said it all starts with the club and one's career end's with the club whatever you achieve intercounty wise. Paudie echoed Ray's words and said that the success of the Minor and U21 Teams gives the club a great basis of succeeding at Adult Level. MC Jer Ronayne closed proceedings then and the Crowd celebrated the night away.
MOURNEABBEY COMMUNITY WALKWAY CHURCH GATE COLLECTION: The Community Council will be holding a church gate collection to finance the Community Walkway Lights.

MOURNEABBEY LADIES FOOTBALL: Our U14 team played their first competitive match of the year on Saturday 19th March against their near rivals Mallow. Despite playing in atrocious weather conditions and despite going a point down with 5 minutes remaining, the team fought back and won on the score line of 4-3 to 3-3.
Senior Team: Our senior team played Donoughmore on Sunday 20th and won on a score line of 3-11 to 2-11. The senior team are to play Valley Rovers in their next match.
Training: Training continues on Saturday mornings for U12/14 from 9.30am to 10.30am, with the U10's returning to training this Saturday 26th March. Training for U16s up to senior level takes place each Tuesday at 7.00pm.
