Fermoy first responders information meeting

THE recently set up Fermoy First Responders group are holding a public meeting and information night on this Thursday night, February 27 at the Fermoy Community Youth Centre at 7.45 p.m. and everyone is welcome to come along.
The aim of this group is to build up sufficient numbers of volunteers trained to enable First Responders to be available on a 24 hour rota system. One of the big advantages of having the CFR group in the area is that they will mobilise immediately when notified by ambulance control and, depending on how long it may take to get an ambulance to an incident, the CFR group may be at the scene ahead of the ambulance and who knows what difference those vital minutes may make in certain cases.
Anyone who is interested in doing a first aid course or in gaining a qualification as a certified cardiac first responder or volunteer should attend this meeting.
Also on the agenda will be training on the use of a defibrillator and CPR. Many clubs in the area already possess defibrillators on their premises and this should be of great interest to them in the way of training others to use these facilities.
The group, which was only recently set up, have already received very generous sponsorship from the McCarthy Insurance Group in Fermoy. In the last week the group has already been rewarded with a an allocation of €1,960 from Cork Co Council who obviously see this venture as being of great benefit to the town and surrounding areas.
