All people associated with Clyda Rovers GAA were saddened to learn of the passing of John Hegarty last week.
John who hailed from Vicarstown originally moved to Old Dromore many years ago. He first got involved in Clyda Rovers GAA Club in the early 70's.
He will be best remembered as one of the selectors who brought home the clubs first county title when the Junior A Hurling County title in 1989 after a replay against Ballinascarthy. John was a real Hurling man and did his most to promote hurling in the club indeed he was a Junior Hurling Selector right up 2007.
In 2005 he was also a Junior Hurling Selector when Clyda made the Junior A Hurling North Cork final where we were defeated by Kilworth, the club had more success when John was a selector for the U21 B North Cork winning team who defeated Ballyclough in the final. John also gave great support to the club in the form of cutting the old pitch and toke time out to help the club in any way.
He was voted as Clubman of the year in 1994.
He also took to the road selling tickets when the club and community went selling tickets for the development of the new complex. John also had a great love of Cork hurling and with Club president Joe Walsh the two friends would often be seen in Semple Stadium And croke Park supported the rebels.
We express our deepest sympathies to his wife Mary, Son Jerry and Daughter Eileen and Josephine and his wide circle of relatives and friends.
John will be remembered as one of the great Clyda men and was an example of what a loyal and good Club Person should be Ar Dheis De raibh anam.
