The Dromcollogher May Fair & Vintage Rally has had to be postponed due to the poor underfoot conditions in the grounds where the event was to take place adjacent to the West Limerick town.
The atrocious weather of recent times has rendered the field inaccessible for the heavy vintage vehicles and would also have been very difficult for those attending the event.
This is a huge loss to the Dromcollogher Respite Care Centre, for which, the event was being run as it is their only major fund raising event of the year and an enormous amount of work has gone into organising the day.
"I know a large number of people will be disappointed, however we were left with no other option but to cancel the Fair and Vintage Rally following an inspection of both fields on Monday evening. And, with the forecast predicting continued rain, the grounds would not have improved sufficiently to run the event on this Sunday. We are extremely frustrated that we had to cancel and the decision was not taken lightly, given the amount of work by a large number of people that has gone into the organising the event over past months," said Sr. Bridie the chief fund raiser for the Respite Centre.
There will be a further meeting by the committee in Dromcollogher on this Friday night to re-schedule the event for a later date.
