Castlemagner hold successful AGM

Castlemagner GAA club held their annual general meeting last week. The success of the various teams last year was always a topic up for discussion. For the coming year the positions remain the same as last year. Chairman – Denis Gayer, Secretary – Stephanie O Leary, Treasurer – Tomas Lenihan and PRO, Alan Gould. Those positions are supported by assistant Chairman, Michael Tobin, Assistant Secretary Donagh Buckley, Assistant Treasurer Brian Taylor, and Mick Tobin as Assistant PRO also.
The meeting went well after an initial opening prayer by Fr Michael Dorgan Parish Priest. Both the Chairman, secretary and treasurer all read out reports for their stalls for the previous year. Obviously the wins in the Junior B County and Duhallow Hurling Championships were the main talking point along with the U-21 Hurling league wins also.
The managers, selectors and back room team were all mentioned along with trainers Tony Barry & Denis o Connell, and their full backroom teams for their efforts in keeping the teams fit and well for the year. The managements were all agreed and a strategy is in place for the underage section of the club for this year. As always numbers can be tight so if you wish to join the club in any capacity we would love to welcome you and or your family.
The club did a great amount of fundraising with the scrap metal collection the previous year and in January a cheque for €5,000 was handed to the local Community Centre to help with the refurbishments costs. The hall is now complete and is open for anyone who wishes to use it for meetings, events or clubs etc.
As always the family fun day was a great success despite the start of the day being hampered by rain and wind. This is the main fundraising each year, and thanks was accredited to all who helped out on the day.
SOCIAL DINNER DANCE
The upcoming Social Dinner Dance was also discussed. A great night will happen on Saturday next 2nd February in Springfort Hall, when the players and their families and all associated with the club along with the parish come together to celebrate the successes mentioned above, along with our excellent Camogie & ladies football teams who have flown the flag for the ladies involved with our club again last year, as they always do.
SUCCESS FOR 2013
So all that is left now is to continue the clubs success this year and gather more new players, officers, mentors, and anyone who loves our national game and would like to contribute to the club in a bid of making 2013 another great one. As the legend Tony Barry Says, we need to DRIVE ON! Make this year another great year to remember.
