And its again evident following the success of the 2013 staging and confirmed with a formal presentation of proceeds to the Canon O'Donovan Day Care Centre in the Malpasso Bar.

Originally scheduled for New Year's Day, heavy rainfall created a swelled river and safety issues cancelled the original staging. However, a welcome respite allowed the swim get the nod of approval to allow swimmers some days later take a dip and allow supporters made their way to the famous Boeing for the fifth annual swim. And those participating supported the beneficiaries from the latest staging, the worthy Canon O'Donovan Day Care Centre.

The Society offers home care, respite care in addition to a day care service to families in need of this specialist care.

Organiser Eileen Tarrant thanked all those on answering the call to support the venture with 26 swimmers participating. Super Valu in Millstreet helped to sponsor the event as did Tarrant's Bridge Bar, the Bush Bar and the Malpasso Bar.

Thanks to the support of the public, a €3,883 cheque was presented to Mary Feeley on hand from the Canon O'Donovan Day Care Centre.

In reply, Donal Guiney from the Centre expressed gratitude on the generous subscription toward enhancing the work of Canon O'Donovan Day Care Centre and the donation will assist in diverse requirements.
