Macra Capers champions - Banteer Macra Capers cast were crowned all-Ireland Capers champions on Saturday night, and it will go down in the history books of the club as it was a first all-Ireland Capers success after a third year competing.

They put on the production of the show, 'We're on the Road Again' in Mountmellick Arts Centre, competing against Kinsale, Enfield, Kilnaleck, Clonakilty and Athboy, with Athboy and Enfield of Meath coming second and third. Many thanks to Laois Macra for the very well organised night they hosted.

The cast comprised of 10 people, Karen Buckley, Aishling O'Keeffe, Patrick Buckley, David Murphy, Aidan Murphy, Aidan O'Donoghue, Kelvin O'Connor, Billy Herlihy, Joe Twomey and Ger Kelleher. The show was produced by Heather Healy. Congratulations to Patrick, David and Billy for winning Best Act with the Healy Rae and Donal Trump sketch and to the fantastic Producer Heather Healy on winning Best Producer.

The club put on a highly entertaining show with plenty of variety from singing, dancing, comedy, Irish dancing and music instrumental. All shows were highly entertaining and the standard was very high.

The club would like to say a massive thank you to the supporters who followed them to Laois Saturday night, it's fair to say Banteer had the largest support on the night from all over Avondhu. The club would also like to thank all the families and friends for all their support and help over the last few months and to the backstage crew for the hard work they put in behind the scenes.

The club began putting this show together with the help of Heather Healy in November and since then have worked tirelessly to put the show together. Special thanks to Banteer Community Centre and Lyre Hall for the use of their halls over the last few months.

Banteer Macra want to thank everyone who came out on Sunday night to welcome the club home with our all-Ireland title and to Banteer, Lyre and Districts Community Council for organising such a good night.

Fundraiser cheque

A presentation of cheque by Eileen Murphy to the Mercy Hospital Foundation takes place on Thursday, February 9, 7 p.m. at Glen Theatre - all welcome. A massive total of €18,713 was raised and many thanks to all for the support and effort.

GAA registration nights

Banteer/Lyre GAA will hold its registration nights on Friday and Saturday, February 10/11 and Friday and Saturday, February 17/18 from 7 p.m. to 7.30 p.m. in the Astro turf dressing rooms for all members. Adult 50 and juvenile €30. Contact no. John Lyons, 087 8518616.

Banteer Community Childcare are seeking a Childcare Practitioner required to cover maternity leave.

IRD Duhallow

IRD Duhallow hosted a very successful public information session on the opportunities available through the Rural Development (Leader) Programme 2014-2020. Please see attached the presentation which was delivered on the night.

Please note that targeted expressions of interest are now open for the sub themes Enterprise, Rural Towns and Broadband in North Cork. These sub themes are time bound, in that all applications under these sub themes must be received during the period January 9 to February 28. All other sub themes are open and expressions of interest can be submitted at any time.

KILBRIN

School enrolment

Application forms for enrolment for September 2017/2018 for Kilbrin National School are available from the office at 022 48164, or email scoileoinbaisteam@eircom.net.

There will be an Open Night on Thursday, March 9, from 7 p.m., to 8.00p.p.m.,where pupils/parents will get an opportunity to view their classroom and to meet the staff.

GAA presentation

Kilbrin GAA will hold the presentation of medals for the victorious hurlers on Friday night next in the Social Club at 9.30. Medals will be presented to the junior a hurlers who captured the Duhallow JHC and the junior b's who captured the league title. The award of the hall of Fame this year goes to the well-deserved Seán McAuliffe who has given years of service to Kilbrin GAA both at local level, and at Duhallow and Cork County Board stages as well. There will also be an award for the Player of the Year. Light refreshments will be served. Everyone welcome.

Lotto

The draw for a jackpot of €2,300 took place on Monday last, numbers drawn were 4, 12, 18 and 28. There was no jackpot winner and lucky-dip winners were Billy Daly Kilbrin, Bill Cashin Kanturk, Ellen O'Leary Kilbrin, Tara Kiely Ballygraddy and Tom Linehan Castlemagner. Next jackpot is for €2,400.

Bingo

Bingo continues every Monday night at 8.30 sharp, current jackpot is €1,950 in 54 calls and bonus ball is now at €280, come along and play in very comfortable surroundings.

45 Drive

The 45 Drive continues every Wednesday night at 9 p.m. Everyone welcome.

Village Renewal

There will be a Village Renewal meeting on Wednesday, February 15, in Social Club at 8.30, please come along with any ideas you may have for to help in the improvement of the village as we will be applying for a grant for upgrades.

Sympathy

Sincere sympathy is extended to Anna and Martin O'Riordan and family on the death of Anna's brother Fr John Cotter, who died recently.

Sympathy is also extended to James and Mary O'Connor and family Lismire on the death of their son and brother John O'Connor. May their souls rest in peace.

KILCORNEY/DROMTARRIFFE

Dromtarriffe GAA

Our 2016 victory social took place in the Heights Hotel Killarney last Saturday night. A large attendance was joined by Ger Lane County Board chairman and Tony McAuliffe secretary Duhallow Board. Michael O'Connell did an excellent job as MC and John Tarrant was on hand to take the photos as well as our parish priest.

Presentations were made to the hurling management by the players in recognition of their guidance in bringing Duhallow and county honours to the club. Andreas O'Sullivan outgoing Junior Football manager also received a presentation from the players. Floral bouquets were presented to Sharon O'Keeffe Club PRO, Noreen McSweeney Club Photographer and Emer Lane Sandpit as well as sponsors presentations. Our thanks to the staff of the Heights Hotel and all who provided spot prizes in the night.

Bowling notes

Jermiah Lehane of Kanturk, who passed away to his eternal reward recently was a well known figure around Duhallow and beyond. He was an around sportsman and a very respected community activist. In his younger days, he was a regular bowler with the Sally's cross bowling club. He played many a tournament and challenge score on the Sally's Cross road. In later years, he became the clubs chairman. He was a gentle giant who was popular with everyone who knew him. To his family, neighbours and many friends, the bowling fraternity would like to extend their deepest sympathies. May he rest in peace

Denis Horgan Bowling Club-winter Competitions-Danny Murphy and John Breen grasped a last shot win over Ned Kelleher and Donal Cashman. Ned Kelleher teamed up with Maurice Cashman to record a bowl of odds win over Aaron Mackey and John Breen. Ned Kelleher and Donal Cashman had a double win over Aaron Mackey and John Breen. Both scores went to last shot play offs.

Senior citizens party

Open invitation to all senior people in Dromtariffe Parish to the annual gathering on Sunday, February 19, at 1 p.m. in the Parish Hall. You can look forward to a warm welcome as we begin the day with Mass and anointing of the sick. This is followed by a hot meal, drinks and entertainment and lots of chat.

Active Retirement

Dromtariffe Active Retirement activities has recommenced on Wednesdays at 11 a.m. in Dromtariffe Parish Hall. Everyone is welcome to come along.

We are holding our AGM on Wednesday, March 1, at 11 a.m. in the Dromtariffe Parish Hall. New members very welcome.

KILSHANNIG

Ladies' football

The hardworking Kilshannig Ladies' Football Club took a night off recently to enjoy our annual social in the Hibernian Hotel. Awards presented on the night included our under-16 North Cork Win, as well as acknowledgement of those those participated in Cork Development. Las year was the first year that the club fielded an under-21 team, and the team received a special presentation in recognition of this.

Congratulations were offered to Mairead O'Sullivan and Aisling Healy, who have been appointed to the under-16 and Minor Cork squads respectively. A special award was made to Pascal Ring and Tadgh Buckley, to mark 10 years of training in the club. Last year they trained a total of five teams, and they were presented with photos of all five teams. Well done to them, and the hard working mentors who work with them.

All present had a great night, with music by the excellent DJ Rowan Meehan of Bench Warmers. Well done the girls and roll on 2017.

Bweeng Celtic FC

Underage training continues indoors on Saturday mornings in Glantane. Email Eithne at bweengcelticunderage@gmail.com or PM on Facebook with any queries. Any new players (6-12) welcome to come along and give it a go. A busy few weeks ahead for Bweeng Trail Blazers running club.

The club is hosting a race on May 7 and are delighted to announce that they have secured SKECHERS as their main sponsor for their 2017 5k and 10k race. We are also delighted to have Imagine Broadband back on board for a second year. This year is expected to the biggest yet with great prize money and a faster course. To get people who might be interested in taking part we are also starting a Couch to 5k programme. This will be an eight-week programme which commences on March 13 at Bweeng Community Centre.

The club's awards night and race launch party will take in the Hibernian Hotel on March 4. Tickets cost €20 and include a three course meal with DJ and spot prizes. A great night guaranteed.

Training continues every Monday and Wednesday night at 7 p.m. at the community centre. New members always welcome.

Thank you

Dromahane Community Park Group would like to thank the Valley Players for giving them the proceeds from the raffle of their sell-out Saturday night show. The raffle raised €510 so well done all. The Valley Players would like to thank everyone who supported them last weekend for their production of 'Big Maggie'. We had four full houses which is a great testament to all involved and shows great community spirit. Roll on next year.
